"THIS SITE SUCKS."
A Guestbook
on a web site that deals with personal preferences (such as this one),
coupled with automatic anonymity usually leads to some pretty strong opinions.
The converse, of course, to the above statement is "This site is the greatest
I've ever seen!", and both have already appeared on our board.
To the people who leave such messages, I say: Thank you! The design and
execution of a web site is a creative process. Often times, the webmaster
is too close to a project to objectively view it, so he relies on the opinions
of visitors to give him a clear picture. Without your comments, this
site would not be growing in the direction it is today.
When I first started znuff.8m.com (now known as "Z'nuff Web"!! Yay!:),
my goal was to simply update an old page I had at Geocities to let people
know that Enuff Z'nuff were still kickin' it after all these years. I had
no urge to compete with all of the fine sites that had cropped up since
then, and I still don't. Keavin
can get news faster than I can and has some killer audio and visual files,
and Michelle
has a terrific newsletter and a really cool song battle!
Why would I want to compete?
I wouldn't. So, I decided to make this the "Fun Site For Enuff Z'nuff Fans",
by ignoring touring info and the 'business' side of the band, and focusing
instead on trivial things like the often humorous duality of Donnie
Vie's lyrics.
Happily, this didn't work. Instead, I installed a Guestbook and search
engine and found out that I was running a site that the visitors weren't
completely happy with. Frequent searches for Tour Information has left
me with no choice but to start adding it to the site (don't worry; I'm
actually tickled pink that the site is growing and people even bother to
come here at all!). What...you mean you didn't know I can
see what you're searching for? *evil grin* Maybe I shouldn't have told
you...I can't wait to see what shows up now!
Another popular phrase is "Donnie Vie pictures". Unfortunately, while I'd
love to make all your wishes come true, I can't fill this request. I will
not take pics from anybody else's site (all the ones on Z'nuff Web were
either scanned by me or donated), and some pics are copyrighted material.
Of course, if anyone reading this has any pics that they've taken and wish
to send them to me, I'll gladly start another section to the site and give
proper credit to the owner of the pictures.
Now, to address the downside of Guestbooks: although everyone has a strong
opinion about what they like, not everyone shares that opinion. That's
perfectly alright; it's be a boring world if we all felt the same
about everything. What's not alright, and what will
not be tolerated on this site, are vulgar insults directed at other people
who have taken the time to comment in the Guestbook. If you wish to tell
me that the site sucks, by all means, please do so. It's your right. However,
do not insult others on the board, because personal attacks will get your
post deleted very quickly and, upon repeat offenses, will get your IP address
reported to your Internet Service Provider. Like the man says in the song:"We
don't have to be friends to get along."
Keep the comments and requests coming, please. I want to know what's on
your mind. A comment from Anna who wrote that her favorite part was the
Random Quotes, led me to add thirty more of the buggers (and I had a blast
doing it, too). If I were doing this all for myself, I'd be bored out of
my skull, and probably need therapy besides.
Now, what about the original question, "Who's Running This Site, Anyway?"
You are, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
Peace.
